CURRENCY:
The Malaysian currency is called the Ringgit. Ringgit banknotes are issued in the following denominations: 1, 5, 10, 50, and 100 Ringgit.
Smaller values are issued as coins. 1 Ringgit = 100 Sen.
Bank of Malaysia does not want their banknotes
to be observed by public.

CURRENCY IMPORT/EXPORT RESTRICTIONS:
Local currency can be imported and exported for free up to amounts of 1000 Ringgit.
Foreign currency can be imported for free and exported for free up to amounts equivalent to or exceeding 10,000 Ringgit, special permission required for importing Israeli and Yugoslavian .
CIRCULATION:
Many outmoded notes are still redeemable.
Effective July 1999, notes of 500 and 1000 Ringgit ceased to be legal tender.
ALTERNATIVE CURRENCIES:
All major currencies are accepted.
