The currency of Belize is called the Dollar. Dollar banknotes are issued in the following denominations: 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 Dollars.



Smaller values are issued as coins, with 1 Dollar = 100 Cents.

CURRENCY IMPORT/EXPORT RESTRICTIONS:
The import and export of local currency is limited to 100 Dollars. Import of foreign currency is free. Export of foreign currency is limited to 500 Dollars equivalent or up to the amount of foreign currency imported and declared.

 

CIRCULATION:
Current notes were issued in 1990 and 1997. Most outmoded notes are redeemable without time limit.

 

ALTERNATIVE CURRENCIES:
US Dollars are widely accepted. British Pounds and Mexican Pesos can also be used.
