Commercial Transaction Requirements

If your business would like to conduct a transaction at one of Guardian International Currency Corp.'s locations, your representative should be prepared to provide:

 

Additional information is required for the following:

 

Are you a regular commercial client? Find out how to open an account.

 

 

You are bringing a large amount of cash on behalf of your business

For cash transactions of $10,000 or more, please be prepared to provide the following information:

If your company is presenting cash for a transaction equal to or exceeding $10,000 Canadian or equivalent in foreign currency, your representative will need to provide the following:

  • A piece of Acceptable Identification
  • Personal address and phone number
  • Occupation

 

As well as the following information about your business:

  • Business name
  • Type of business
  • Business address and telephone number
  • Corporation number and place of incorporation

 

Opening a Commercial Account

If your company conducts transactions with Guardian on a regular basis, you may wish to open an account with Guardian. Opening an account will simplify your transactions - you only need to provide your company's information once!

 
 
Commercial Identification

When you conduct a transaction on behalf of your business, you may be required to show Commercial Identification. The type of identification you show depends on your company type:

 

Corporation

If your company is incorporated, you will need to provide full Articles of Incorporation, including any Amendments to the Articles.

Please Note: If the corporation is using any name other than the incorporated name, you will need to also provide a Business License indicating the legal right to operate under that name.

 

Sole Proprietorship

If you are an individual operating a Sole Proprietorship, you will need to provide a Business Licence.

 

Partnership

If your company is a partnership, you will need to provide a Partnership Agreement as well as a Business Licence.

 
Open a Commercial Client Account

If your company would like to conduct regular transactions with Guardian, you will need to apply for a Commercial Account. To apply for an Account, complete the Commercial Client Application and provide Commercial Identification when you conduct your next transaction.

Not-for-Profit Organizations

If your company is a Not-for-Profit Organization, you will also need to complete the Not-for-Profit Organization Details form and submit it with your Commercial Client Application.


Money Services Businesses

If your company conducts any of the following activities, you are considered a Money Services Business (MSB).

  • Foreign Currency Exchange
  • Remitting or Transmitting of Funds
  • Purchase or sale of Travellers Cheques, money orders or other negotiable items
As a Money Services Business, you are obligated to register with the Financial Transactions Reports and Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC)

If your company is considered an MSB, you must provide proof of your FINTRAC registration with your Commercial Client Application.

 

Cash Transactions

If your company will be conducting cash transactions, the representative conducting the transactions on behalf of your company will also need to complete an Individual Client Application and provide one piece of acceptable identification.
