MALTA



CURRENCY:
The currency of Malta is called the Lira (pl. Liri). Lira banknotes are issued in the following denominations: 2, 5, 10, and 20 Liri.

Smaller values are issued as coins with 1 Lira = 100 Cents.

CURRENCY IMPORT/EXPORT RESTRICTIONS:
The import and export of local and foreign currencies are free.
In the near future declaration of amounts of or equivalent to MTL 5,000 will be required.

CIRCULATION:
The current series of notes were issued 1989 and re-issued in 1994 with additional security features. Some older notes remain redeemable with fixed expiration dates.
