MALTA
CURRENCY:
The currency of Malta is called
the Lira (pl. Liri). Lira banknotes are issued in the
following denominations: 2, 5, 10, and 20 Liri.
Smaller values are issued as coins with 1 Lira = 100 Cents.

CURRENCY IMPORT/EXPORT RESTRICTIONS:
The import and export of local and foreign currencies are free.
In the near future declaration of amounts of or equivalent to MTL 5,000 will be required.

The current series of notes were issued 1989 and re-issued in
1994 with additional security features.
Some older notes remain redeemable with fixed expiration dates.
